Timothy Carl Olmstead, 65, of St. Joseph, MI, passed away at home on Sunday, February 21, 2016. Arrangements have been entrusted to Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, MI. Tim was born on May 11, 1950 in Traverse City, MI to the late Clifford and Ann Marie (Hogander) Olmstead. He graduated from Central High School in Traverse City, and earned his Engineering Degree at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, MI. From an early age he enjoyed working on go-carts, cars and motorcycles, and restoring his ‘baby,’ a 1948 Studebaker. His first job was at a gas station/garage on the corner of Main and Winchester in St. Joseph and he often reminisced about the time he worked there when passing by. He enjoyed many visits to vintage car shows and talking to the owners about their cars. Tim was the former manager of the St. Joseph-Benton Harbor Cable Company for many years, and currently co-owned and operated Sister Lakes Cable  Company that they built from the ground up. The business was started in 1987 and has thrived and grown due to his diligence and hard work with his staff. He enjoyed being ‘Semi-Retired’ working from his home office. He attended conferences and seminars keeping up on new technology and changes in the cable industry. Tim was an avid book reader on his Kindle or computer, and enjoyed doing researching and tracing his family heritage. Thursday night dinners at his home with friends was lively and entertaining. Tim is survived by a nephew – Jason Sandeen of Dowagiac, and a cousin – Joseph Hogander of Minnesota, as well as many faithful friends and business associates. He is preceded in death by his mother Ann Marie Olmstead in 2001, father Clifford Olmstead in 1968, and a sister-Jill Ann (Olmstead) Sandeen in 2001. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Thursday, Feb. 25, 2:00 P.M., at Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home in St. Joseph, MI. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery in St. Joseph. Visitation precedes the service from 1:00 P.M. till 2:00 P.M., at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Berrien County Humane Society of Southwest MI or Salvation Army of Benton Harbor, MI.
