Charles Devere Gill

Charles Gill, also known as “Cardinal Charlie”, passed away on Monday, June 2, 2014 at Lakeland Medical Center in St. Joseph, Michigan, at the age of 84.  Charlie was born on February 24, 1930 and was a life long resident of Dowagiac.  He worked for the State of Michigan for thirty years and retired in 1984.  Charlie was well known in the community for his numerous articles in the Dowagiac Daily News on the memories he shared from his life in the 1930’s through the 1950’s.  He was also the author of the book “Remembers…”, to which he fondly dedicated to his “child wife bride”, Peggy. Charlie is survived by his wife, Peggy; two sons; Terry (Margi) Gill and Barry Gill; and two grandchildren, Amber Gill and Christopher Brown.
