Bob's Obituary
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 A.M. Friday, May 6, 2022 at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, 555 E. Delaware Ave., Benton Harbor, with Fr. James Adams officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Benton Harbor. Friends may visit with the family beginning at 10:00 A.M. Friday at the Church. Mass donations in Bob’s name may be made to SS John & Bernard Parish. Those wishing to sign John’s Memory Book online may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com.
John was born September 9, 1937, in Benton Harbor to William & Muriel (Schriner) Russell. He graduated from St. John’s Catholic High School and continued his education at Aquinas College. On August 6, 1960 he married Arlene Hahn in Benton Harbor. Bob was very mechanical and could fix anything. He owned Russell TV Repair Service for 10 years. He was in charge of maintenance for The Days Inn, New Products and a technician at Coloma Water Treatment Plant. Bob enjoyed playing golf at Blossom Trails with his sons and brothers along with bowling with his wife and brothers at Blossom Lanes. He enjoyed his time on Lake Michigan fishing for perch with family. He loved all sports but especially basketball, playing for Aquinas College on a full ride basketball scholarship and in later years supporting and attending Michigan State basketball & football games. John’s greatest joy was spending time in the backyard by the pool with friends and family.
Bob is survived by his children; Ron (Bonnie) Russell, and Lisa (Josh) Sutherland; eight grandchildren-Heather Russell, Cassandra (Jeff) Gaishin, Corey (Jaymie) Russell, Ashley (Josh) Mann, Bryan (Jenny) Russell, Taylor Russell, Emily (Antonio) Tavolacci & Kate Sutherland; eight great grandchildren; sibling Richard “Rick” (Angie) Russell and numerous nieces & nephews. John was preceded in death by his wife Arlene, three sons-John, Dave & William “Scotty” Russell, his parents, and siblings; Nancie (Russell) Clemens, William Russell, Peter Russell
