Doug, I will miss seeing your smiling face very time we crossed paths. I have so many stories about the two of us enjoying the "South side of B.H." when we were kids. Our friendship spanned over 70 years. If anyone in your family is interested in some great stories, they are welcome to talk with me. Don't worry Doug, I will keep some of the wild ones our secret.
Rest in peace good buddy, I'll be joining you one day.
Al Workinger.

Doug was truly a man born into his calling. I first met Doug when he managed the men's department at Blake's-so long ago that our parents had charge accounts and we youngsters could take clothing home "for approval." A few years later I was lucky enough to work there myself during college Christmas breaks. It was always enjoyable to talk to Doug at the Spartan's Steak and Suds outings all those years later. I doubt Doug ever forgot a name or a face. Sincere condolences to David, Shelly and their families.

So sad to lose a really good friend. Doug was a true gentleman. Whenever you met him he would always make you feel so comfortable and welcome. He will be sadly missed and St. Jo will not be the same for us without Sandy and Doug. We will remember the family gatherings with fondness and love. Carole & Denny Penney

My love and prayers go to David, Shannon, Shelly, James and children. The loss of both your parents in such a short time is unbelievable. Bob and I were so fortunate to have been in business with them for so many reasons. Both were kind, caring, honest loving spirits that made our lives and business better. They will be greatly missed on so many levels.
You all have examples of how life should be lived. Such a legacy they have left for us.
Sincerely
Jan Fischer

When I was a young person, Doug waited on me and my brothers when our mother took us clothes shopping at Blake’s in St. Joseph. I remember how helpful and friendly he was as a sales clerk. His opinion and consultation on picking out clothing was highly respected. He still remembered me when I occasionally ran into him as an adult. His gregariousness made him the perfect businessman and salesman.
