To all of David’s loving family - We count ourselves blessed to have known our friend and neighbor “Judge Grier” for the past 9 years. Always quick with a smile and a story, David was a pleasure to sit and chat with. His knowledge of local history was phenomenal! One of David’s favorite topics of discussion was his family. It’s obvious how much he loved you all and it’s also obvious how much love you have for him. Your daily visits with him were a very visible act of love that was noticed by many. We pray that you will feel the peace and presence of God in a very special way at this moment and in the days to come. With our love, Tom & Ellen

Judge Grier committed his entire professional career to Van Buren County, both as an attorney and as a judge. His longstanding service to our county, and to our community, is remarkable. The Van Buren County Courts offer condolences to family and loved ones.

David was a gentleman, a scholar, always kind and thoughtful, and a genuine pleasure to know. He was helpful to my mom and dad and to me too. His office was across the street from Calvin Funeral Home where I worked. One winter day back in the early 70's I noticed his Camaro snowed in at his office as I looked out the funeral home window. So I called him and asked if he might be thinking of selling it. Dave said yes. I asked if I could come over, shovel it out of the snow bank and take it for a spin. I did and I bought it. Soon after that I changed jobs and went to work out west for Batesville Casket Company and drove that beautiful Camaro all around Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona. I wish I had shared that story with Dave, he would have gotten a kick out it. My sympathy to Dave's family on his passing. He was a good man, truly one in a million.

I worked for Van Buren County Sheriff's Department for 26 yrs. Judge Grier was respected by Professionals and Violators, as well. That is the kind of respect a Judge and his family should cherish.

I was a South Haven City Police officer for 15 years during Judge Greer’s time. Many times had to go to his home for search warrant signatures. He was a fair judge and never complained when we woke him up. He was missed by all when he retired.

Dear Grier family, I apologize for the late note and I hope that you still receive this. The Pony Express does not get out to Denver much but a friend of yours, Judi McMullen, just informed me of the sad news!! Mr. Grier( I am from the generation that still has a hard time calling adults I met as a child by their first name) and my father spent much time together either at the Law office, the yacht club or the Den at our house. I remember how he loved his bike(not bicycle) and if I remember correctly he was a joint owner of a lightning sail boat and of course he and your mom was kind of a neighbor(we lived at Kalamazoon and Van Buren). He was always very kind to us Neal kids and I enjoyed seeing him down at the office and in later years at the Combs Barbershop or somewhere else in town. Mr. Grier was a calming force for me after my dad's funeral in 1992 when he told story upon story about my father. We laughed, cried and I went to sleep that night knowing my father better. For that, I am forever grateful. By now David and Dad are caught up and who knows what trouble the two of them are getting into! Once again, sorry for my tardiness and your loss and I hope that you have found peace and have had many fond memories since his passing!! Sincerely, Harold Neal, Jr
