Β Mrs. Essie will always have a place in my heart. My memories of her as one of my mother Willa Mae Jones best friends is cemented. She always had a kind word for everyone. In my mind's eye I can still see her in the Choir stand at First Baptist. Deepest Sympathy to you all from: Jacqueline M. (Smith) Luttrell and Family Chicago, IL

Our prayers for the Calhoun Family. Mrs. Essie Calhoun, was the best friend to our deceased Mother Willa Mae Jones. We (Merry Christina Bruce-Smith, Ada Pruitt, Carol Sheppard, Isabelle (Penney)Ash, Barbara Jones, Jacqueline Smith-Luttrell the Jones girls of 38th Ave she refer us to. Mrs Essie Calhoun was our Auntie. The party line phone back then they spoke everyday. We would go down the list and laugh about it, as in my preteens -teenager years I would say, when the phone would ring, itβs Mrs Calhoun, Mrs. Hawkins, Mrs Pruitt, Mrs. Anderson, Mrs Taylor, Mrs Bailey, Mrs Baber, Mrs Wellbourn, Mrs Wilson, Mrs Beard, Mrs Howard, Mrs Peterson, Mrs King..no itβs Rev Sherman McClain. We would laugh!!! Iβll always cherish each memory of love and hugs. Iβll always remember her being reserve, she had a sense of humor, cooking, Speaking at Church, smiling, gardening, Such beautiful flowers, singing in the choir and wisdom. I always could get a snack or candy on her tables or the dining room table even when I was adult with my own family. Always ask about my family My husband, children , grandchildren ( now great grandchildren) and Church, she always inquire about, always for doing the right thing and respectfully. I would visit her when I would come to the Covert area. For years I was amazed on how she was yet moving around in that house and garden . Nothing but God.., What a blessing to have known you on this journey. From labor to reward. God Bless each of you that remained in the Calhoun Legacy. I went to school with Earl and knew Frank and John. the big tall brothers and many others of the Calhoun Family. Nothing But Love..our prayers in Christ Jesus will strengthen you and give you peace. Mrs. Merry Christina Bruce-Smith of Atlanta, Georgia ....
