Gerta and I met knitting.Β She was a courageous woman with a loving spirit.Β If asked Gerda would educate you about WWII.Β She was always knitting for others and was very proud the year her group made hats and mittens for all of Covert school.Β I will remember fondly as a dear friend.

I met Gerda when I worked at Senior Services, and we became friends.Β My daughter Chloe was very interested in WWII and Gerda was kind enough to invite us into her home and tell us stories of her life experiences.Β Pulling out the old maps and speaking of the fear and atrocities she and others lived.Β Stories so vivid that now more than 7 years later I remember them as if they were told to us yesterday.Β Stories of sorrow and stories of triumph, and of coming to America and Ellis Island.Β What a strong, beautiful andΒ remarkable woman she was!
