The Scott Club received many wonderful attentions from Mickey. She was very active as long as she was able. I visited her many times in her little house..nice memories of a nice woman.

Please accept our deepest condolences from the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Indiana University South Bend. The obituary that you shared reveals so much about a life well-lived, in farming, hospitality industries, gardening, pets, and certainly with family. We are blessed at IUSB to have both Steven Gerencser and Elaine Roth among our work family. Please know that we send our deepest sympathies to all of you and that Steven has our deepest level of support during this time and beyond.

My first memory of Mickey was 1960, after I met her daughter Joann, when we attended the 2 room School of Pennyann. I remember the times spent on the family farm and picking berries. Oh the memories! Mickey will be missed by many 🙏❤

Sharing this memory from June 2015 ' Walked back from farmers market today, took a different route and went past a house I've admired for many years, an old brick home surrounded by amazing gardens and landscaping. Stood admiring the flowers and gardens , and a lovely lady came out and introduced herself -looked to be about 80 years young. We visited for about 15 minutes while she shared stories about her home, her life, and her gardens. She gave me this beautiful red rose from the bush she planted in memory of her daughter.I was admiring a plant which looked very unusual and she said "there's a story behind that one. A friend of mine from England, owns a boutique in Saugatuck, went home to visit and brought that back hidden away in her suitcase" .She reached down and pulled out a start for me, pic posted here. Have no idea what this plant is but if anyone recognizes it please let me know. Mickey, nicknamed for her baseball skills when Mickey Rooney was so popular, real name is Dorothy, invited me to stop over for tea next time I'm in town. What a wonderful experience, only in South Haven..

I’ve been acquainted with Mickey since the 1970’s when I worked in south St Joe, then shopping in Saugatuck and her as a customer when I worked in a store in South Haven. My sweetest memories of her are at South Haven Rehab when our little dance group would entertain. She loved music and dancing And reminiscing. She would sing along. She told us of having met Frank Sinatra. It was a blessing to us to see her joy. It is nearly a year since we saw her.

Though I only saw Mickey a handful of times while I lived in SH, I remember her as a joyful woman who loved her garden and the flowers she grew there. Many times those flowers made it to St. Paul's to grace the altar and beautify our services. I know you will be missed!

I worked for Bill and Mickey and Jeno and Anna for several years. I have many fond memories working with everyone. We were all like family. Susie behind the bar and me waiting tables and laughing all day long! Bless you Micky and thanks for all the memories! DeeDee

My thoughts and prayers are with the entire Gerenscer family…and with all those who knew Mickey and called her friend. May you all find peace. I have wonderful memories of “Mrs. Gerenscer”, (as I knew her best), growing up running and playing with Steven…and always in awe of JoAnn, Elaine and John. Mickey had a big heart for all of us in the neighborhood...and if she was driven to distraction by our endless noise and goofy antics…she never let on. Mrs. G left great memories in my childhood years…and will be remembered fondly…and never forgotten. I’m better for having known her. Dave Peterson, Downing, Wisconsin

My heartfelt sympathy goes out to the whole family. Mickey was always so joyful and loved to show me around her garden. On several occasions she made flower arrangements for me, just because. She loved animals and always fussed over my little dog. She missed her dog but loved her cats when I knew her most. To all who knew and loved her, may God‘s love and light surround and comfort you in this difficult time.

I remember a special late summer afternoon sitting with Mickey in her beautiful garden, as she recalled the designing and cultivating of the plantings. Her garden was a true reflection of her passionate and creative loving spirit. My condolences to her family who will truly miss such a large presence, which came packaged in a petite frame. All these pictures truly show that her family was the center of her world.
