Art was my all time baseball buddy. We played High School and Legion ball together and were on Coach Dale Patterson’s staff at the Ted Williams Baseball Camp in Massachusetts in 1960 and 61. But even before that Art and I played an endless game of baseball on the vacant lot near our house on Superior Street. . Elmer Olson built a backstop. We’d pitch and hit against each other with a tennis ball — winding up or digging in mimicking the major leaguers we saw on TV. Over and over again. A ball in the tree was a double. Off the wall of Olson’s shop a triple. Over the shop of course a four bagger. Art loved the Indians although he later became a Mariners fan, no doubt due to his time in Seattle. I followed the Tigers. We knew the lineups cold and still did in his last years as we watched games in his apartment in South Haven. Art was also a good basketball player , with a deadly one handed push shot from 20 feet or more. Swish. Deadly. We had some very good times together. No hitter, AJ! You got him!

What a joy Art was to us and all of our travelers with Alpine Pleasure Tours. He was our driver for 13 years and he and Jeanette brought us many wonderful memories. Helpful and friendly always. He will be missed.
