I first came to know Jack while he was living at the River Ridge retirement facility as we introduced my mother-in-law Dolores Phillips Phaff. As Becky and I would visit Dee Jack was always there with a smile on his face and a laugh that was infectious. And as we got to know Jack’s family through meeting there we noticed that there was a kindred spirit among us all and what we are dealing with and embracing. We enjoyed the fact of calling Jack and Delores boyfriend and girlfriend as they seemed to make a very cute couple and there were no disagreements with politics for them to bicker over :-) On Jack’s birthday last year Jill brought in a birthday card expressing her love for her father but was too emotional to read it and asked me to do so. As I read the card to Jack with Jill holding his hand and looking on I read Jill‘s words with my voice. Jack seem to look at me kind of funny at first but I believe he realized where the words were coming from and who they were coming from, as our eyes engaged he smiled at me and at that point I felt like I was adopted by Jack and somehow brought into the fold. I would sometimes sit with Jack in front of the big TV and watch a football game and talk about South Haven and Fire Dept. whenever the thoughts would come up, this was usually while Becky was helping give her mom a bath, but Jack was the one I was drawn to and felt most comfortable with. I will surely miss Jack even though I knew him for a short while but knowing the essence of his life existed within him and now knowing how fitting the tribute given to him meant to me I do feel The pain and loss as if I were family. So sorry for your loss to all who knew him 🙏❤️

Jack was a great and caring Uncle. When I had a grandson born with heart issues he took on the concern and donated money prayers and many phone calls. Living in Colorado I looked forward to almost every summer of my childhood visiting South Haven and Bangor. As an adult I did not get to make those yearly trips. Uncle Jack made sure to always stay up with what was going on in our lives. He was gentle and loving to everyone. The world has experienced a great loss and heaven definitely gained an angle. Kelley and Jill he will be with you always. With tears, prayers and love I say see you in the future Uncle Jack. Love always Debra McCloughan Parrott

When Jack and I were 13 years old. we attended a junior high dance. I had a severe appendicitis attack and he carried me all the way home (about 3/4 mile). This was the kind of caring person he was and I am sure it stayed with him through the years. He was a very good athlete and genuine good friend. Sincere condolences to Jill and Kelley. RIP dear friend.

Jill & Kelley, sorry to hear of Jack's passing. Jack taught me a lot about being a firefighter & in turn I got to fight a few fires with him before he retired to learn some more. It was always a joy to be around him especially at the coffee table in the early morning hours at the firehouse before we went to work. We also had some good times playing around at the firehouse as kids. Thinking of both of you. RIP Jack.....
